Personal Responsibility

Travel carries some measure of inherent risk including, but not limited to, the hazards of traveling in underdeveloped areas where road conditions and other facilities may be poor or lacking; the forces of nature; and accident or illness in remote regions without means of rapid evacuation. Bookings are accepted on the specific condition that SP Safari Tours and its team of independent overseas Safari Consultants act only as agents of the passenger in all matters relating to hotels, sightseeing tours, restaurants, all forms of transportation and other services which may be included in these tours. SP Safari Tours Company may purchase these services from suppliers and other independent contractors, without warranties and representations from them and thus such services are not subject to its control.

All baggage is carried at the passenger’s own risk, and SP Safari Tours Company reserves the right to exclude certain baggage at its discretion. The airlines used to provide flights within Kenya are subject to international air conventions limiting their liability; the limitations of liability are contained on the reverse side of the airline ticket and form part of the terms and conditions of this package.

About The Safari Vehicles

It should be noted that the types of vehicles used for safaris on rough roads in East Africa are different from tour vehicles on the highways in developed countries and normally they do not have air-conditioning other than the standard ventilation fan. The Safari Land-cruisers used throughout East Africa for overland road safaris on the main highways beyond the parks are Land-cruisers a standardized design with sliding passenger windows. Open-sided safari viewing vehicles may be used inside the parks and conservancies. In most of the safari lodges where electricity is provided by a generator, these are turned off late at night until the following day. Incase of stop offers, water from taps in bathrooms is not suitable for drinking and therefore bottled water is provided for drinking and cleaning teeth (brushing) during the safari. The roads between the parks may have rough stretches and the overland journeys can be lengthy as tour vehicles are limited to a maximum speed of 50 miles per hour, so flights between camps are always recommended in preference to long road transfers.

The type of accommodations to expect on your safari

“As a general rule, the higher your Kenya safari prices, the better you can expect your accommodation to be. At the lower end, campsites are usually basic, sometimes crowded and not always in the best locations within the national parks or reserves, but they are well priced and often have ample facilities such as showers and toilets. Lodges are the main stays of the Kenya safari scene and the quality varies considerably based on each park. Most lodges within the reserves and national parks have excellent locations but are aging and in need of renovation, while others are luxurious and recently overhauled. In tented camps, including mobile camps, you’ll sleep in large, walk-in tents – they’re like lodge rooms in terms of size but with canvas for walls and floor. Canvas tents mean that you can hear the sounds of the African night. Hopefully you won’t hear the sounds of your neighboring guests if the tents are nicely spaced. Most lodge rooms and tents of this kind have comfortable (not camp) beds, sometimes a desk and usually a private bathroom; some even have an outdoor shower with no roof but walls that protect your modesty. Particularly in tented camps, you’ll most likely need to recharge your devices not in your room but at a power station in the main public areas.

Hotel choices can definitely affect your safari budget.

Price of safari varies depending on the type of accommodation. Accommodation can be upgraded or downgraded to suit your needs and budget. SP Safari Tours stays alert monitoring of the changing hotel rates, travel industry exhibitions, forums, newsletters and travel magazines to find out not only the best rates but who offers the best security and safety for the money.

Example, here are some things to note when planning your trip;

1) 5-Star Safari Accommodations: Prices ranges from $250 - $450 upwards per person per night while on safari including breakfast.

2) Standard / Luxury Safari Accommodations: Prices ranges from $100 - $150 per person per night while on safari.

3) Budget Safari Accommodations: Price ranges from $50 - $150 per person per night while on safari.

 What to expect during a typical African safari

For most days, your safari will begin with a quiet African voice (driver or guide) waking you well before sunrise. After dressing up, and having a coffee or tea, you head out for a few hours in a safari vehicle (with other guests, a driver, guide) looking for wildlife – this time, and the last hours before sunset, are ideal for watching wildlife. You’ll return to the lodge or camp mid - to late morning for a proper sit-down breakfast. A few hours of relaxation, followed by lunch, then a few hours more doing very little occupies the hottest part of the day, when even animals retreat into the shade. Afternoon tea, often known as "High Tea" in a nod to colonial-era safari traditions, happens around 3 PM or 3:30 PM, then it’s back out looking for wildlife until after dark. Just before sunset, you’ll stop for another safari institution, the ‘Sundowner’, when you’ll watch the sunset while nursing the drink of your choice. You arrive back in camp in time to freshen up, then it’s dinner and off to bed, before it all starts again at very early the next morning.” Read more..
